The Scarlet Dragon by Jordan Quinn (#2 in The Kingdom of Wrenly series) - Rapid Review
Synopsis
“An unusual egg is found on Crestwood, the land of dragons. It looks like a dragon’s egg, but it’s deep red in color. When the egg hatches, a legendary scarlet dragon emerges! This dragon becomes Lucas’s pet and lives in the castle. But soon the dragon gets sick! The only remedy is a potion that’s made with special berries from the forest of Burth – the land of trolls. Will Lucas and Clara be able to find these berries and cure the scarlet dragon?”
My Thoughts
The Scarlet Dragon is a heartwarming tale about friendship, loyalty, and the bond between animals/creatures and humans. The second chapter in the Kingdom of Wrenly series starts with a typical day in the kingdom but soon turns everything on its head.
The part of this book that I love the most is how dedicated, and caring Lucas and Clara are towards Ruskin. They are young children, but they will do whatever they can to help their new dragon—using their wits and determination, the two friends' journey to a friend of Clara's who knows where to look for the special berries. After the troll is hesitant to show them the location, Lucas and Clara have to prove themselves trustworthy. It's a great read that shows these two's wonderful innocence and purity—what an excellent example for young readers.
I'm a sucker for any story about the relationship between animals and people as it's incredibly tender, and this book is no different. It's a pleasant read for anyone, regardless of age, and I immensely enjoyed this next chapter in Clara and Lucas' adventure.
Memorable Quotes:
“Lucas shared everything he learned with Clara. He wanted his best friend to help him raise the dragon.”
“’Is he still alive?’ asked Lucas.
‘He’s fallen asleep,” said Grom.
‘Perhaps you and Clara should get some rest too,” Andre suggested.
‘No way,” said Lucas. ‘I’m staying right here until he wakes up.”
‘Me too!” said Clara.”
